Qingming Festival Activities

Qingming, both a festival and one of the 24 solar terms, has great significance for the Chinese people. We sweep the tombs and mourn our ancestors, but we also take a trip to the greenery to see all things new and enjoy the spring.
For the children, Qingming is a term often mentioned in ancient Chinese poetry, a delicacy in the green dumplings and a gloomy day brought about by the drizzle. Thanks to the careful planning of our First Secretary and the Pioneer Brigade, the children at BMH were able to enjoy Qingming from a variety of subjects.
When "Qingming" was combined with Chinese lessons, students were able to recite ancient poems and make festive posters. When "Qingming" in the art lessons, the colours of nature jumped off the paper umbrellas and landed on the kites.
Beyond the artwork, it is best to experience Qingming in the great outdoors. BMH"s 50,000 square metres of outdoor space is a natural place to explore.
Before the Qing Ming Festival, all BMH community members gathered together. We wanted everyone to enjoy all that spring has to offer and to share the beauty of spring.
The weather is always unpredictable at Qingming time, and we started the spring party in a light drizzle. However, the children"s enthusiasm seemed to be the opposite of the weather, as they ran around the playground with their well prepared kites.
With the enthusiasm of the children, we selected the most unique and eye-catching kites in each grade, which added a myriad of moving colours to the gloomy sky of the day.
The kite race was far from over as we watched the children and parents running around the lawn. Many kites were able to take advantage of the breeze to fly up into the clouds and out of sight in the sky, while others unfortunately dropped again and again. Amongst the kites flying all over the field, we found the one to the furthest reaches which probably could tell us how the race was going on at Mission Hills Golf Course far away.
As this was a spring event for everyone to participate in, tug of war was always the best game to play. Our teachers, students and parents were all "Herculean" and everyone put their best foot forward.
Every event has its own meaning and every reunion is a precious memory. Thank you to every member of the BMH community for making spring wonderful this April!
*Special thanks to the parents of P2A Adam Zhang and P6 Zack Mo for capturing the moment for us.
